Last couple of weeks of school

Most of us have finished our Celebration posters and they are hanging around the classroom looking really awesome. We learnt that it is better to take some time to learn about the topic and to make the poster look really effective.

All the people from our class that participated in the talent show did a really good job! Well done Zoe and Anitra, Molly and Alex.

Last weekend it was the Timaru Rose Festival. The Rose Festival was at Caroline Bay and the childrens' flowers were displayed in the community lounge. We all made sand saucers and some people made treasure chests and decorated a boot. Well done Shaun. He won a prize for his treasure chest.

Amy, Zoe, Oakleigh and Tane went to the inter-schools. Zoe got into the finals for sprints. Amy, Zoe, Melanie and Jenna got in to the finals for relay. Well done. It was hot, fun, sunburning, school-free, sporty!

busy end of term coming up

There are only four weeks left until the end of term. The week after that it is Christmas. Lots of us are looking forward to Christmas and already have our presents planned.

Coming up on December 3rd is the talent show. The people from our class who are entering are practising hard for what will be an awesome display of "Highfield's Got Talent". It is going to be on at Mountainview at 7pm. Come and see us!

Interschool are coming up on the first of December. We wish the people from our class luck in their events. Go Zoe, Oakleigh, Amy and Tane.

Some of us are busy making treasure chests and decorated shoes for the Rose Festival that is on in Timaru at the moment. They will on display at the Bay on Sunday. They will be judged and there will be prizes given. So far they are looking awesome.

For Kiwican we have been nominating people to get the tiki for showing respect. Anitra got the Kiwican certificate at assembly last week. Well done Anitra.

We have been working hard to make posters for our celebrations topic. We had to find the information first then plan the layout and the use of pictures to make an informative poster.

We learnt a new maori song for assembly. It was about working together and taking care of each other. It was called "E tu kahikatea".

4.4

On Tuesday, we walked up to the stadium for our school athletics day. All our class was there. The day was sunny, fun, awesome, exhausting and toasting.
Some of our class got through to the interschools: Zoe for relay and sprints, Oakleigh for high jump, Tane for baseball throw and shotput, Amy for relay and sprints. Way to go folks!!!

Lauryn left Highfield on Thursday. We had a shared lunch to celebrate her time at our school. We wish her all the best at Gilberthorpe School.

The teachers celebrated no children at school on teachers only day on Friday. We think they went to Chatters and had a party without us! Mrs Roxburgh might not agree with us.

We are studying celebrations.

Here are some of the things we have to celebrate in our class this week.

Every week, we have a journal writing competition. We have to write about anything we like for 20 minutes. The highest number of lines written this week was 50. It was written by Naomi. Last term the highest score of 38 lines was written by Jack and Tane. The competition is on! Some of us might be practising at home!
Lately we've been playing a maths game called round the world and Oakleigh and Jack have been our champions so far. We have to be very quick at our basic addition and subtraction facts to 20.

Extreme Term 4

Yay! School's back again. Now we can learn some more. Welcome to Term 4. We have got a busy term ahead.

We haven't done much yet but we are going to be learning about celebrations and we have got athletics and cross country coming up.

We are sad that a class member is leaving at the end of the year too.

Some of us miss the holidays because we enjoy having time to do what we want to do when we want to do it but ... that's school days!

Last week we had an awesome week.

We started designing our powerpoints about water.

We went on our Wai Water trip to the reservoir, the milliscreen and the museum..
We went to the milliscreen. Some people found it really, really smelly.
When we went to the reservoir we went in a tunnel. The lights went off and most people screamed.
We went to the museum and we got to see some whitebait and some bullies. To start at the museum, we had five minutes free time to have a look around. Some of our favourite finds were: telephone box, a gun with a knife on the end, Richard Pearse plane, the big ship's wheel, the wee shop upstairs, the twenty-two magnum guns, the dresses, and the cannon.

At the milliscreen. "What is that stuff?"

At the museum. "We can find the right words."
This is where the fresh water comes in to the reservoir from the rivers.
We went skating at Tekapo Alpine Springs. We went in the hot pools too. We got to see all three states of water there; solid, liquid and gas.

We enjoyed the warm water pools.

The parents were a great help and we got better and better at skating.
